John Shanahan briefing at the Defence Science & Technology Military Aspects of Blast and Shock Symposium in Wollongong.

John was delighted to be able to support Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG) at the 26th Bi-annual Military Aspects of Blast and Shock Conference (MABS 26) in Wollongong last week. He followed after the impassioned and highly relevant opening address by the Ukrainian Ambassador to Australia, H.E Vasyl Myroshnychenko. Ukraine is facing the deadly effects of blast and shock on a daily basis and it set the scene very effectively. They are dealing with these threats through their own Ukrainian military engineers, local emergency services and humanitarian demining teams. The task and the scale of destruction is simply daunting. There was a broad spectrum of international scientific agencies and partners, esteemed scientists, researchers, some outstanding contractors and the odd practitioner such as John to give a bit of context at the pointy end as a member of both the Australian Army and MRead Limited. It was a pleasure to be able to mix and challenge ideas, pre-conditioned perspectives, to hear about some of the outstanding technologies that are being developed and to simply be able to enjoy yourself. A very warm thank you to the DSTG leadership team for running such a successful event, but especially to the DSTG support team who made it happen.
